Amid the downpour in Southern California, a small dog faced a daunting scenario, trapped by the waters of a storm-swollen wash in Camarillo, but the shivering canine's plight took a turn as local rescue teams promptly stepped in. Ventura County Animal Services officers, following a report from the Ventura County Public Works Agency, arrived at the crossroads of Wood Road and Laguna Road Tuesday morning to find the distressed pooch, according to a Facebook post by VCAS.
The dog, described as a possible pug or French bulldog mix and around three years of age, was spotted approximately 10 feet down in the wash, leading VCAS to enlist the help of the Ventura County Fire Department, Animal Control Officers Serratos & Garcia arrived on scene contacted VCFD for assistance and a latter alongside a rescue swimmer got dispatched to carry out the delicate extraction, KTLA reported. Once safe, the canine was ferried to the Camarillo Shelter where it received a veterinary exam and the warmth of a kennel; however, its lack of a microchip has sent VCAS personnel on a search to reconnect the dog with its owners, "Huge thank you to the VC Public Works crew for reporting the sighting so promptly, allowing this girl to be rescued safely," a section of the VCAS announcement read.
In a display of coordinated action, the VC Public Works crew was praised for their swift alert that catalyzed the rescue, while VCAS expressed gratitude to both Oxnard City Fire and Ventura County Fire Department; the latter's timely response ultimately made the rescue possible, as detailed in the agency's social media update.
