Traffic on Tampa's Howard Frankland Bridge has seen better days, with multiple incidents leading to significant delays. Early in the morning at approximately 6:30 a.m., a crash in the southbound lanes of Interstate 275 caused the left lane to shut down, backing up traffic beyond Dale Mabry Hwy, as reported by WFLA News. The congestion has been a painful reminder for daily commuters who rely on the bridge to traverse Tampa Bay.

Adding to the traffic troubles, a semi truck carrying garbage caught fire around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Florida Highway Patrol noted that the smoldering refuse onboard the tractor-trailer started a fire. Footage captured by 10 Tampa Bay News crews showed multiple emergency responders rapidly putting out the fire, with two lanes blocked during the incident. Despite the visual spectacle, the driver of the semi was fortunate enough to escape unharmed and was able to quickly separate from the vehicle.

As if to not be outdone by the morning's events, another crash occurred during Friday's rush hour on the Howard Frankland Bridge. According to FOX13's Jennifer Epstein, southbound I-275 was at a near standstill with traffic backed up to Howard Avenue due to the collision and debris scattered on the roadway. Motorists were warned of delays of up to 30 minutes to cross, as the bridge transitioned into a veritable parking lot.

The timeline for when normal traffic flow will resume remains uncertain. With the bridge serving as a critical artery for the Tampa Bay area, each closure further conveys the fragility of our daily commutes. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes or be prepared for an extended travel time when approaching this series of mishaps on the bridge.
