Yesterday, a high-speed chase unfolded as San Bruno Police Department officers pursued a vehicle deemed suspicious near El Camino Real and Euclid Avenue. The driver, a teenager, pushed the pedal in an attempt to evade the law, but modern technology had a different outcome in mind. According to a social media post from the San Bruno Police Department, the chase did not rely solely on sheer speed, but instead on a deft deployment of a StarChase GPS tracking device, which allowed officers to track the suspect's location.
With the GPS tracker keeping real-time tabs on the erratic journey, officers judiciously held back, coordinating with Daly City Officers. Despite the driver's intentions, the officers, exhibiting patience, laid out spike strips to impede the getaway. These strips effectively deflated the vehicle's tires. This tactical move helped avoid a potentially dangerous continued pursuit on crowded streets.
The suspect continued into Oakland, inevitably meeting their downfall when the vehicle crashed. The California Highway Patrol, playing a critical role in this contrived game of cat and mouse, located the disabled vehicle. The driver, revealed by law enforcement to be a 16-year-old from Oakland, found his flight from justice grounded and his anonymity stripped away by the unforgiving grasp of technology and strategy.
The San Bruno Police Department confirmed that the vehicle in question was reported stolen and fitted with license plates that were essentially a mismatched set of stolen identity. Booked into Hillcrest Juvenile Detention Facility, the young driver now faces the consequences of a joyride gone wrong.
