Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office reported the detention and intended deportation of 35 individuals for immigration violations under a partnership with the Trump administration using Section 287(g), which allows local law enforcement to act as federal immigration officers. Paxton emphasized, "Every illegal must be found, detained, and deported," framing the action as a defense against what he called, "The invasion of illegal aliens encouraged by the Biden Administration represented one of the greatest threats to national sovereignty in our history," according to the Office of the Texas Attorney General.
The arrests were carried out by the Attorney General’s Criminal Investigative Division in multiple Texas metropolitan areas. Paxton stated, "We will defend the American homeland by deporting the illegal aliens threatening to alter the fabric of our country," emphasizing the initiative’s role in safeguarding national sovereignty, as reported by the Office of the Texas Attorney General.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton used the renewed 287(g) agreement to allow some of his staff to assist in immigration enforcement following President Trump’s executive order on undocumented immigration. People detained under this program were processed for removal by ICE. State and local authorities acting under federal authority are expected to continue similar enforcement, as stated by the Office of the Texas Attorney General.
