In a push to bring domestic violence into the light, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has called on citizens across the state to wear purple today, October 16. This initiative, aimed at raising awareness of this widespread issue, falls under Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It marks the eleventh year that Paxton, along with staff from the Office of the Attorney General, has pledged to wear purple in solidarity with survivors and in remembrance of victims.
"Every day, my office works tirelessly to help victims of domestic violence and restore hope to survivors, and I invite Texans to join that effort by participating in Go Purple Day," Paxton stated. A statement obtained by texasattorneygeneral.gov captured Paxton expressing the simple act of wearing purple as a means to offer support and amplify the conversation on the pressing problem the state is striving to eradicate.
The Office of the Attorney General isn't just symbolically aligned with this cause; they are laboring at the frontline, offering tangible help through the Crime Victim Services Division and child support programs while forging alliances with various advocacy groups. These avenues together compose a network that aims to free Texans from the clutches of domestic violence and abuse.
For those wishing to explore the depth of family violence and support available to those facing such hardship, the Attorney General's office encourages a visit to resource platforms including ‘Get Child Support Safely’, the ‘OAG Crime Victim Services Division’, and the ‘National Domestic Violence Hotline’ (NDVH).
