In an effort to further diversify the state's workforce, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced the kickoff of the 10th annual Texas HireAbility campaign. This statewide initiative, carried out in partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), is dedicated to increasing awareness of the avid potential and contributions of nearly two million Texans with disabilities in the workplace. "Every October, we honor the nearly two million Texans with disabilities who strengthen our workforce and make our state great," Abbott stated, emphasizing the essential role individuals with disabilities play in Texas's success. The announcement was detailed on the official website of the Governor of Texas on October 1.

Throughout October, recognized as Disability Employment Awareness Month by proclamation of the Governor, the TWC and its partners will be actively organizing job fairs along with various disability awareness events across the state. One of the activities highlighted is the Texas HireAbility Employer Forum, scheduled for October 2, at Morgan's Wonderland in San Antonio, featuring prominent voices like Dr. Daniel Wendler and representatives from Texas-based companies like Toyotetsu and Accenture. The forum aims to share best practices for disability inclusion in the workforce, as mentioned on the Governor of Texas website.

Commemorating the 35th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the HireAbility campaign serves as a platform for employers to understand the valuable contributions that people with disabilities make to the workplace. "Texas HireAbility isn't just about filling jobs; it's about unlocking the immense potential and diverse skills that people with disabilities bring to our workplaces," TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Alberto Treviño III told the Governor of Texas, highlighting the campaign's aim to foster an equitable workforce.

Promoting inclusivity is not just limited to the HireAbility campaign. TWC's We Hire Ability employer recognition program lauds businesses that feature a workforce comprised of at least 10% employees with disabilities. Participants are honored with a We Hire Ability decal for their online media and physical locations, showcasing their commitment to diversity. "Texas’ workforce is made stronger by tapping into the skills, talents, and contributions of Texans of all abilities," TWC Commissioner Representing the Public Brent Connett expressed, as referenced on the Governor of Texas' official website.

Moreover, TWC continues to assist with its Vocational Rehabilitation program, which aids eligible Texans with disabilities to secure competitive employment. Last year alone, TWC served over 69,000 participants and helped more than 10,000 Texans with disabilities achieve their employment goals, illustrating a continued commitment to building a diverse and capable workforce. Those interested in participating in hiring events or webinars can find more information on the TWC website under the Texas HireAbility section.
