Minneapolis police have apprehended three men in connection with a carjacking that took place on the afternoon of September 30th. According to a bulletin on the City of Minneapolis website, the incident occurred at 4:09 p.m. on the 10 block of 18th St E, when the suspects demanded car keys from a victim at gunpoint.
After the victim complied with the demand, the carjackers fled with the stolen vehicle, which led to a police response upon a 911 call at 4:28 p.m. The call reported reckless driving and encompassed two vehicles entering a secure underground parking garage on the 2300 block of Snelling Ave. In a swift response, officers were able to locate the stolen car along with another involved vehicle, and the three men were arrested without incident, as reported by the City's statement.
Police Chief Brian O'Hara highlighted the efficient performance of his team in handling the situation, "I am grateful for the quick actions taken by our Minneapolis police officers to safely brought these armed carjackers to justice," he said. Officers discovered two firearms in one of the vehicles, which further supported the arrest of the men now held at Hennepin County Jail. Meanwhile, forensic scientists from the Minneapolis Police Department processed the scene, collecting evidence pertinent to the case, which bears the number 25-282635.
The report underscores that carjackings in Minneapolis have seen a significant drop this year. The crime rate is down 33% year-to-date and 51% down from the three-year average, an encouraging trend in the ongoing battle against such violent offenses. Despite the incident, the trend marks a relative decrease in carjackings, underscoring efforts by local law enforcement to curb this type of crime in the city.
