A routine day in Cypress Park was briefly disrupted when the Los Angeles Fire Department received an emergency call for a confined space rescue. On October 30, the LAFD sprang into action around 1:22 PM after reports surfaced of a person stuck in a storm drain at 3297 N Arroyo Seco Avenue. According to a LAFD alert, firefighters spent over half an hour locating the individual, who was fortunate enough to have escaped injury.
The rescue operation required firefighters to forcibly open the gate that barred access to the storm drain where the adult male was trapped. During the ordeal, authorities advised drivers that the SB 110 transition to the 5 Freeway in both directions would be closed. Commuters were encouraged to quickly find alternate routes to avoid delays. The LAFD's skilled teams, which included numerous units such as E12, T1, and RA3, worked diligently to safely extricate the unnamed individual from the claustrophobic confines of the city’s underbelly.
By 2:28 PM, the Los Angeles Fire Department had successfully managed to cut through the obstinate grate, as relayed by the conclusion of the rescue alert. The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, managed to climb out of the drain without necessitating medical attention. In a statement shared by the LAFD, "firefighters were able to quickly remove the grate cover and the (un-injured) adult male climbed out."
