As winter approaches, Tulsa is preparing to open a new inclement weather shelter to support residents experiencing homelessness. According to a City of Tulsa press release, the shelter will open on November 17, at BeHeard Movement, 7216 E. Admiral Pl, and will operate 24 hours a day through the end of March 2026.

The facility will begin with 50 to 60 beds, with plans to expand to 125 and accommodate up to 250 people during severe weather. Services at the shelter will include case management, behavioral health support, peer counseling, and assistance with housing and employment. Pharmacy delivery will also be available for those with prescriptions.

Funding for the shelter comes from the City’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) allocation, with CREOKS Health Services and BeHeard Movement leading operations. Food services will be provided through partnerships with A Way Home for Tulsa, Iron Gate, and the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. The shelter is also accepting donations of adult winter clothing, pet food, and other essential items, which can be dropped off at BeHeard Movement or at CREOKS’ midtown office at 4103 S. Yale Ave.

This initiative aligns with Mayor Nichols’ broader strategy to reduce homelessness, which includes increasing shelter capacity, coordinating encampment closures, and launching a $6 million rehousing program through the Safe Move Tulsa initiative. The rehousing effort aims to provide permanent housing for 300 individuals within the next year.
