Tulsa Police Officer Derek Sullins was recognized for his quick action during an off-duty incident in Atoka County. According to the Tulsa Police Department's Facebook post, Sullins received a Medal of Honor from Atoka County Sheriff Kody Simpson, along with commendations and challenge coins from the Stringtown and Atoka Police Departments.

The event occurred earlier this year, when Atoka Police responded to a shoplifting report at a local Walmart. The suspects attempted to flee, striking police and civilian vehicles before crashing. One suspect, 19-year-old Jason New, armed with a rifle, fired at officers from a wooded area before approaching traffic stopped on the highway.

Officer Sullins, who was among the motorists in the area, intervened and held the suspect at gunpoint until additional officers arrived. Authorities later identified Sullins and commended his actions for helping bring the situation under control.
