The Tulsa Police Department marked a milestone this week with the graduation of the first class from its Spanish Citizens Police Academy. According to the Tulsa Police Department's Facebook post, thirty-six participants completed the four-week program held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. The course covered topics such as police operations and daily procedures.
The program was developed to engage Spanish-speaking residents and improve communication between the department and the community. Officers Ana Parga and Captain William White led the initiative, which was created in response to requests for stronger connections with Spanish-speaking citizens.
Graduates received certificates, photos with Chief Larsen, and Chief’s challenge coins in recognition of their participation. The ceremony concluded with a shared meal where officers and graduates had the opportunity to discuss community concerns and policing practices.
The Tulsa Police Department expressed appreciation to St. Thomas More Catholic Church for hosting the classes and acknowledged the participants for completing the academy.
