Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. announced the sentencing of two men for the 2023 murder of Alonza Georgia. Zaire Allen, 21, and Hassan Winston, 24, were each sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison following a Supreme Court jury verdict on July 17. According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, the individuals were convicted on multiple charges, including Murder in the Second Degree and Robbery in the First Degree.
The incident, which took place in March of last year, involved Allen and Winston, both masked, confronting Georgia in the lobby of his residential building. Court evidence showed that the two attempted to flee the scene after the encounter but fatally shot Georgia before leaving. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. commented on the impact of gun violence.
During the trial, the prosecution detailed the events surrounding the crime. Court documents indicated that Allen and Winston traveled from Philadelphia to New York City on the night of the murder. They confronted Georgia at gunpoint in the Saint Nicholas Houses in Harlem, pushed him outside, and shot him following a struggle. Georgia, who was robbed of cash during the attack, later died from his injuries at Harlem Hospital.
Following the shooting, law enforcement responded promptly. NYPD detectives executed a search warrant at Winston’s residence days after the incident, recovering a firearm and clothing worn during the attack. Allen initially evaded arrest by fleeing to Baltimore but was apprehended in April 2023, with officers seizing additional evidence at his location. In a statement obtained by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, D.A. Bragg acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the Cheltenham Pennsylvania Police Department and NYPD detectives in apprehending the suspects.
