In an overnight operation that brought an end to a week-long manhunt, Pueblo County Sheriff's Office deputies, as a part of the U.S. Marshals Task Force, swooped down on an apartment in Pueblo, arresting two juvenile fugitives. The escapees, Dameron Carbajal and Cristian Jaramillo, both 17, were apprehended early this morning after they fled the Spring Creek Youth Services Center in Colorado Springs on September 22, as per the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office.
Acting on a tip, the law enforcement teams arrived at the 1000 block of W. 13th Street at 12:09 a.m., surrounding the area and commanding the occupants to remain inside despite several individuals' attempts at a hasty escape through a window. The officers maintained their ground and brought in additional resources to ensure the area was well-secured. Eventual entry into the apartment at 12:23 a.m. led to the pair's arrest without further conflict, the sheriff's office said, moving swiftly to place Carbajal and Jaramillo into custody, each also wanted on no-bond warrants for the serious offenses they had originally been convicted of, which included attempted murder and felony kidnapping, respectively, out of Pueblo County.
However, the operation unearthed more than just the wanted teens – a protective sweep done by Pueblo County detectives revealed a startling array of firearms and ammunition, including handguns with extended magazines, an AR-style rifle, and evidence pointing to narcotics distribution. One firearm was modified to be fully automatic. Sheriff’s detectives seized an open safe containing suspected drugs, a notable amount of money, digital scales, and other paraphernalia consistent with drug sales.
An adult named Dylan Vanluven, 22, present at the scene, was arrested on an unrelated warrant out of El Paso County, underscoring the multi-faceted nature of the wave of crime law enforcement are grappling with amidst the capture of the two escaped juveniles law enforcement also discovered an intricate web further criminal activity, a predicament the sheriff’s office is set to delve into with additional scrutiny. “This was a coordinated and professional effort by our PCSO detectives, Deputy U.S. Marshals and partner agencies,” Pueblo County Sheriff David J. Lucero remarked, as obtained by the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, highlighting the collaborative approach in apprehending the juveniles and identifying the subsequent crimes.
