The University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College recently celebrated outstanding members of its community during the annual UC Blue Ash Distinguished Awards ceremony. Algeria Wilson, a former student who's been carving her path through the world of social work and public policy, received the 2025 UC Blue Ash College Outstanding Alumni Award at the event that took place on the college campus last Thursday, October 2, according to a report from the University of Cincinnati.
Held in the new Muntz Hall Atrium, the event recognized the diverse achievements of faculty, staff, and alumni who have significantly contributed to their professional fields and the broader community. Wilson, who graduated from UC Blue Ash in 2013 and later from UC College of Allied Health Sciences in 2016, became the first in her family to attend college, a milestone that set her on a trajectory of public service and advocacy.
Wilson's journey, marred by childhood challenges, never hindered her resolve. At UC Blue Ash, she discovered a strong passion for social work and an interest in politics, which led her to volunteer for local political campaigns and delve deeper into the ramifications of public policy on community welfare. "She volunteered for local political campaigns and learned more about how public policy impacts our communities and the quality of life for so many citizens," reported the University of Cincinnati News.
Following the completion of her bachelor's degree, Wilson earned her master's in public policy from Michigan State University. Her career has since included roles like Director of Public Policy for the National Association of Social Workers and serving as Health and Equity Policy Advisor to the governor of Michigan. Currently functioning as the Deputy Director of Juvenile Justice Reform in Michigan's Department of Health & Human Services, Wilson continues to apply her dedication to shaping systems meant to serve society's most vulnerable.
