In a nod to local heroes who are creating an inclusive society, the IDD Education Center recently doled out awards to two exemplary community partners. At the forefront of this year's Community Partner Luncheon, UC Public Safety took home the Chuck Altenau Outstanding Service Award for their efforts to ensure an inclusive atmosphere flourishes on campus for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
The award reflects UC Public Safety's ability to quickly create environments where safety and support go hand in hand with fostering independence. "We are proud to honor UC Public Safety with the Chuck Altenau Outstanding Service Award," Dr. Christi Carnahan, director of the IDD Education Center, was quoted as saying in a statement published by the University of Cincinnati's news platform. Carnahan praised the organization for their commitment to nurturing a sense of community confidence.
Another accolade, the Employer Partner of the Year Award, was bestowed upon RESLV, a creative agency lauded for their passion to impact the community positively. This particular award highlights RESLV's relentless drive to provide inclusive employment opportunities and support the mission of the IDD Education Center.
RESLV has been instrumental in empowering IDD individuals to display their capabilities and chase after a self-sufficient life. "RESLV's recognition as a community partner underscores the importance of collaboration in fulfilling the mission of the IDD Education Center," Dr. Carnahan told the University of Cincinnati. The partnership with RESLV exemplifies the center's goal to carve out a space where everyone can find their fit and succeed.
The IDD Education Center remains committed to celebrating these kinds of partnerships that help to open up access to education, employment, and broader societal involvement for those living with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
