Long Beach saw a night of violence with law enforcement responding to a no-hit shooting and a murder in separate incidents. According to the Long Beach Police Department's latest blotter, the no-hit shooting took place on the 300 block of Coronado Avenue on Thursday, around 8:48 p.m. where a shooter targeted another male before both individuals escaped the scene.
The LBPD discovered evidence of the shooting but, fortunately, reported no injuries. Investigators are still piecing together the motive and the full circumstances surrounding this event. Shortly following the shooting on Coronado, at approximately 9:48 p.m., officers were called to a grimmer scene on the 5300 block of Cherry Avenue for another shooting.
Upon arrival at Cherry Avenue, a male victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body was found. The Long Beach Fire Department paramedics promptly transported him to a local hospital. Despite their efforts, the Long Beach Police report confirmed the victim's death resulting from his injuries. Homicide detectives took over the investigation and, as of now, are still sifting through the details of the case. A press release with additional information is anticipated.
Both investigations are ongoing, and the Long Beach Police Department has urged anyone with information to come forward. No suspects have been named publicly in either case, and the identity of the murder victim was withheld pending notification of next of kin. The LBPD has yet to establish if there is any connection between the no-hit shooting and the fatal incident that occurred an hour later.
