Washington County has officially declared October as National Community Planning Month, recognizing the integral roles that planners play in shaping our present and future spaces, as the Washington County Board of Commissioners passed a proclamation in their recent meeting, reported by Washington County's official website. Planning and Development Services Manager, Carol Johnson, noted the invaluable efforts of the planners, saying, "We truly appreciate and respect the dedication and expertise of our staff, our Planning Commissioners and so many community members who provide input informing and shaping our plans."

The contribution of community planners can't be understated they are the ones who facilitate public participation, enhance the quality of life for residents, and foster the creation of a collective vision, Senior Transportation Planner Steve Kelley emphasized the ongoing work to synchronize local transportation initiatives with Oregon’s climate objectives "As we update our Transportation System Plan we have the opportunity to align local priorities with Oregon’s climate goals," Kelley told Washington County's news release.

The American Planning Association backs National Community Planning Month, using the occasion to underline the crucial influence that planning asserts on the growth and evolution of communities around the nation. In Washington County, the Development Review/Current Planning team partners with developers and various stakeholders ensuring projects mesh with County, state, and Metro regulations.
