Big news for West Baltimore as the curtains rise on a brand new Boys & Girls Club at Hilton Recreation Center, a collaborative marvel borne from the Baltimore Ravens' hefty $20 million investment—touted as only the third of its kind nationally between an NFL team and the youth organization, the opening had local leaders and Ravens feathers aflutter in community spirit.
The Ravens, Under Armour, and local dignitaries rolled out the red carpet Monday for the community, where a fanciful gymnasium, now graced with a first basket by none other than Steph Curry himself, joins a bevy of facilities crafted to enrich, educate, and entertain the youth of West Baltimore, children marched into their new hive of opportunity by none other than the Baltimore's Marching Ravens, and wouldn't you know it, the place is decked out in Ravens memorabilia and brimming with all sorts of amenities like a football field, a basketball court, not to mention tutoring spaces, all waxed lyrical by the President & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore, Jeff Breslin, who, according to WMAR2 News, affirmed, "Every corner says you're loved, but just that first moment when they walk in, they say, I'm part of this team, it's pretty special."
Meanwhile, sixth-grader Taylynn Thomas gushed with excitement about the reprieve from school that the club will offer, stating in a statement detailed by WBALTV, "I would be happy coming from school, because after a long day of work, it will be very fun to come to the Boys & Girls Club." Such heartfelt sentiments echoed through the community, capturing a sense of promise for the center's academic, athletic, and artistic offerings that are bound to bolster the development and dreams of West Baltimore's youths.
