The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has put forth a proposal for the construction of a new roundabout at Northeast Waaga Way (State Route 303) and Central Valley Road Northeast in an effort to not only streamline traffic but also to remove several barriers currently impeding fish migration under the highway. According to the proposal, the new roundabout is set to offer several advantages, including a reduction in the speed of eastbound traffic past the overpass, a shortened construction timeline, lowered costs, and the restoration of natural habitats for local fish and wildlife, as reported by WSDOT.
Community members interested in learning more or voicing their opinions on the proposed project will soon have chances to engage with WSDOT representatives at two forthcoming open houses, one hosted online and another in-person. While the online open house is already up and running through December 12, the in-person event is scheduled for November 13 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Fairview Middle School Gym. According to the official announcement, the in-person open house will not feature a formal presentation, allowing attendees the flexibility to come and go as they please during the event and speak directly with the engineers involved in the project.
For those without adequate broadband service, WSDOT is providing temporary free internet access. Details on how to access this service can be found on the Department of Commerce website, where a list of drive-in WiFi hotspots is available. Additionally, the Kitsap Regional Library has been cited as offering free WiFi access to participants wishing to join the online open house and gain more information about the project's impact and benefits.
Ensuring open and inclusive communication, WSDOT project team members will be present at the in-person open house to clarify the project details, fielding questions and recording community feedback. Furthermore, a Spanish translator will be available to assist with language barriers, guaranteeing that as many community voices as possible can be heard and considered during the planning stages of this environmentally conscious infrastructure project.
