The Seattle Office of Labor Standards reached a settlement with Zifty Global LLC after the company was accused of violating app-based worker ordinances from 2023 to 2025. Zifty agreed to pay $57,843.68 to 163 workers and $1,000 to the City of Seattle for failing to provide minimum payments, upfront offer information, electronic receipts, weekly statements, and proper sick leave notifications.
Worker Luciano Rosetti commented on the outcome, saying, "Standing up for our rights isn't easy, but it's necessary. Thanks to OLS, many of us who work in delivery finally received what we were owed. Paid sick time and fair pay aren't just legal rights—they're what allow us to care for our families and keep going when times are hard.” The settlement also addresses Zifty’s shortcomings in providing written notice of rights and sick time policies under Seattle’s Paid Sick and Safe Time Ordinance, according to the City of Seattle.
Steven Marchese, OLS Director, said, "When OLS reaches settlements like this one, our goal is to increase awareness among both app-based workers and network companies about their rights and responsibilities required under Seattle app-based worker protections.” The Seattle Office of Labor Standards will continue providing free outreach, education, and training on app-based worker laws, including minimum payment, paid sick and safe time, and deactivation rights. Zifty has about 10,000 app-based workers globally, including around 200 in Seattle. Information and resources are available on the OLS App-Based Worker Ordinances webpage, and workers or companies can contact OLS by phone or email for help or to file a complaint, as reported by the City of Seattle.
