Marquis Davis, 18, has been charged with business robbery and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence following a shooting at the Exotic Smoke Shop in Cordova, Tennessee. If convicted, he faces a possible sentence of 10 years to life in federal prison, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The incident occurred last Friday when Davis allegedly robbed the shop at gunpoint, taking about $400 before shooting a store employee in the abdomen. He was quickly confronted and shot by nearby federal agents, who arrested him and recovered the firearm and stolen cash, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
A bystander and a retired paramedic helped the injured employee until EMS took her to the hospital for surgery. Davis was also treated for his injuries and is now in state custody. District Judge Thomas L. Parker will handle the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jermal Blanchard and Greg Wagner leading the prosecution. Davis faces federal and state charges, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and use of a firearm during a dangerous felony. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
