In a concerted push to address the issue of missing children in Northeast Florida, the U.S. Marshals, together with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) and the Northeast Florida INTERCEPT Task Force, have successfully located 22 missing children in an initiative dubbed "Operation: Home for the Holidays." This operation, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, involved local, state, and federal law enforcement partners combing the area to bring these children back home.
Highlighting the effective collaboration, the efforts led to a particularly heartening moment when JSO detectives, with their cameras capturing the unfolding scene, found two teenage girls who had been reported missing for an extended period of time, the duration of their absence being measured not in days but in weeks, they have now been presented with the opportunity to access the necessary support systems for their recovery. The JSO's dedicated Missing Persons Unit operates independently of these focused operations, persistently tracking down missing children regardless of the length of time they have been gone, promising to continue their search until the children are located.
In line with this commitment, the JSO stresses to the public that harboring runaways is against the law and urges anyone with knowledge of a possibly missing child's whereabouts to make a decisive action - to reach out to the authorities, to contribute to these children's safety by contacting police or calling the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1.800.THE.LOST.
