A disturbance call in the Oakleaf neighborhood of Clay County led to a shocking discovery on Monday, as deputies responded to a potentially deadly altercation. The Clay County Sheriff's Office shared details of the incident on social media, providing a narrative that unfolded into an attempted murder charge for a 62-year-old woman. The call was made around 3:00 P.M. on Monday, with a victim yelling for someone to get out of her house. As deputies arrived at the 600 block of Reese Avenue, they were quickly thrust into a scene much grimmer than your average neighborly dispute.
According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office's statement, the unexpected visitor was none other than the estranged biological mother of the homeowner, Serpil Adams. After entering through an unlocked door, Adams, apparently armed with a serrated utility knife, attacked the homeowner. The narrative took a turn when the victim's 8-year-old daughter, in an attempt to protect her mother, stabbed Adams in the arm with a kitchen knife.
The suspect, Adams, managed to flee the scene by car, heading back to Jacksonville where she was holing up with a friend. Acting swiftly on the heels of the incident, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office located and apprehended Adams without further incident. It was a grim reminder that danger can invade homes, unwelcome as a serpent, slithering into sanctuaries once thought safe.
Fortunate in the outcome, the victim and her children emerged physically unscathed. "Neither the victim nor her children were injured during the incident," the Clay County Sheriff's Office reported. The legal ramifications for Adams were immediate and severe - she has been charged with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, held in lieu of a specifically set bond amounting to $500,003.00. It was a surreal sequence of events, with a childhood innocence faced with the sharp edge of violence, managing to prevent further tragedy.
