As Veterans Day approaches, the City of Akron is set to honor the sacrifices and service of military veterans with a series of commemorative events and special promotions, starting from Friday, November 7 and continuing through the official holiday on Tuesday, November 11, when all municipal offices will be closed in celebration of the national holiday.

According to the City of Akron's official announcement, there will be no interruption in regular services such as trash/recycling curb service or leaf removal on Veterans Day, allowing residents to enjoy the day's activities without concern for the usual city service schedule. However, these plans remain dependent on weather conditions which, could dictate a change in this arrangement.

One of the featured events is a complimentary visit to the Akron Zoo for veterans, which will include free admission upon presentation of a valid military I.D. The offer extends from November 7 through 11, with family members of veterans receiving a 50% discount on their admission price during this period. Further afield, on Saturday, November 8, the MAPS Air Museum in Canton will host its 13th Annual Veterans Day Program, a special event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War. This evening event includes a dinner, with tickets available for purchase at $25.

On Veterans Day itself, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens invites veterans for a day of reflection and appreciation with a complimentary self-guided tour from 10 am until dusk. Veterans must present a valid military I.D. upon arrival to take advantage of this offer. Akron residents and those from the surrounding areas are encouraged to engage with these opportunities to respect and honor those who have served the nation in uniform.

Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan expressed the city's commitment to acknowledging the duty and valor of its veterans. "We celebrate Veterans Day to remember the sacrifices made by our Veterans and honor the courageous men and women who answered the call to serve our country," Mayor Malik stated, as obtained by the City of Akron. He expressed gratitude towards both local and national veterans and advocated for community participation in the upcoming Veterans Day events.

For those interested in attending any of the aforementioned events or looking for additional activities and discounts available to veterans throughout the month of November, more information can be found on the city's news page. National restaurant and retail discounts specifically for Veterans are also detailed, providing ample ways for the community to show their support and thanks.
