An incident in the early morning of Saturday in Appleton, Wisconsin, ended with a police officer being run over and a woman arrested on several charges. The Post-Crescent reported that at approximately 2:41 a.m., two officers responded to a verbal disturbance in a parking lot at the intersection of South Walnut Street and West Lawrence Street. The situation rapidly escalated when, after attempting to communicate with a woman in a vehicle, she allegedly accelerated toward a group in the lot. Subsequently, the officers, having been positioned in the vehicle's path, attempted to engage her.
According to police, one officer was unable to evade the car and was struck down, after which the woman reportedly "drive over the officer's legs with both the front and rear driver's side tires," FOX6 News shared. Following the incident, the woman fled the scene, prompting a brief pursuit by other Appleton police officers. Ultimately, the officers managed to halt her vehicle and take her into custody.
The 21-year-old woman from Little Chute now faces potential charges, including first-degree recklessly endangering safety, eluding an officer, battery to law enforcement, and operating while intoxicated, causing injury, all classified as felonies, as detailed by The Post-Crescent. A misdemeanor charge for resisting arrest is also pending. She is currently held at the Outagamie County Jail.
The injured officer, now released, was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to both The Post-Crescent and WISN 12 News. Do note that as of Sunday, WISN 12 News has not named the woman because she has not been formally charged yet. Further developments in this case are awaited as the investigation continues.
