As families prepare to break bread and give thanks, the City of Arlington is also setting its holiday schedule. In an announcement that will impact trash collection, facility access, and much more, city officials have declared a two-day closure for various municipal services during the Thanksgiving holiday.
On both Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday, Nov. 28, Arlington will see its city offices and other public services take a pause. According to the City of Arlington, residential and commercial garbage and recycling collection will not occur on Thursday, pushing back the schedule for those whose pickups fall on the holiday and the following day.
Residents are advised to adjust their waste disposal plans accordingly. The rescheduled pickup times will see Thursday’s collections move to Friday, while Friday’s waste will be picked up on Saturday. Services are expected to resume their regular cadence on Monday, Dec. 1, ensuring the disruption is as minimal as possible.
The upcoming Thanksgiving closures encompass a broad range of facilities beyond waste management. City Hall, the Arlington Municipal Court, and all branches of the Arlington Public Library are among the list of closures. Moreover, the City of Arlington has confirmed that parks and recreational facilities will also largely remain unstaffed and closed to the public. However, select locations, including the East Library and Recreation Center and the Beacon Recreation Center, will maintain limited hours on Friday, Nov. 28, as detailed by the city’s communication office.
As residents make their holiday plans, the city encourages checking the full list of closures and open facilities to avoid any inconvenience. The Thanksgiving schedule, now part of Arlington's yearly rhythm, echoes the city's dedication to allowing its employees to spend time with their families while also catering to the community's needs during the festive period.
