The latest weather forecast for Austin, issued this early morning by the National Weather Service, suggests residents should keep their umbrellas close at hand. According to the forecast, there's a dynamic mix of conditions throughout the week, including chances of showers and thunderstorms today followed by mostly sunny days leading up to Thanksgiving.
This afternoon, the city could see some stormy weather, with a 60% chance of precipitation and possible thunderstorms rolling in after noon. Highs are expected to hover near 77 degrees with a south wind shifting west and possibly gusting as high as 20 mph. "A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77," reports the National Weather Service. Tonight, clouds are likely to clear after a diminished 20 percent chance of early showers and thunderstorms, allowing temperatures to drop to a cooler 54 degrees.
As the workweek resumes on Tuesday, Austin can anticipate a sunny reprieve with a high near 78 degrees, and a calm wind turning north around 5 mph. By Tuesday night, the mostly clear skies will result in cooler temperatures, dipping to around 51 degrees, accompanied by a north wind that could bring gusts as high as 20 mph.
Heading deeper into the week, Wednesday maintains the sunny streak but with a notable drop in daytime highs to around 64 degrees. The breezy conditions persist, with "North northeast wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph," according to the forecast. Wednesday night's temperatures are slated to fall further, creating a chilly outlook with lows near 41 degrees.
Thanksgiving Day itself promises to be pleasant for any festive outdoor activities, with clear, sunny skies and highs around 67 degrees, coupled with gentle winds. The evening remains partly cloudy and mild, setting the stage for a Friday with increasing clouds and a high nearing 71 degrees.
However, the forecast indicates that the latter part of the week may see a return to instability. Showers and thunderstorms could reappear Friday night, with a 30 percent chance of precipitation, and this pattern is expected to continue into next weekend, with varying chances of rain and highs in the mid-70s. "A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 74," warns the National Weather Service for Saturday, looking ahead with a similar outlook for Sunday.
