Barrow County has announced the hiring of Cecily Evans as its new Animal Control Director, a move aimed at bolstering the county's commitment to animal welfare and community engagement in the sphere of public safety management. Bringing over two decades of relevant experience to the table, Evans' appointment has been met with positive expectations from county officials. "Cecily's 20 years of combined experience in animal welfare, public safety management and community engagement will be a tremendous asset to Barrow County," said Srikanth Yamala, Barrow County Manager, in a statement released by the county's official website.
The count's newest appointee began her career in animal services as a caretaker with Athens-Clarke County (ACC) while she was still a student at the University of Georgia. Climbing the ranks from Animal Control Officer to Hospital Administrator at a veterinary practice in Colorado, Evans now comes off an assignment as director of a full-service drug testing laboratory at ACC. Her past roles indicate a strong background in both operational management and community-focused initiatives.
In a sentiment echoed from Barrow County, Evans has expressed enthusiasm about her appointment. "I am honored to return to animal control, and I am eager to work with the Barrow community and volunteers," Evans stated. Her dedication to the field is further underlined by her commitment to weaving empathy for animals with public safety priorities.
Evans holds a bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of Georgia and comes to the county with credentials as a POST General Instructor and Certified Field Training Officer. This educational and professional background has equipped her with the necessary skills for developing and delivering training programs for law enforcement professionals in Georgia. She is set to take up the role on November 24.
