Bellaire Police Chief Onesimo "Mo" Lopez has been placed on paid administrative leave while the city conducts an internal employment investigation, city officials confirmed yesterday. According to Click 2 Houston, police operations are continuing as normal during his absence.
The city stated that the matter does not affect public safety or police services. Officials emphasized their intention to resolve the situation promptly but have not released additional details about the employment investigation. The city noted that placing an official on administrative leave is a standard procedure during internal reviews and does not necessarily indicate wrongdoing.
Chief Lopez began his service in Bellaire in January 2019 after a national search that initially appointed him as assistant chief, according to his profile on the city’s official website. He has a 24-year law enforcement career, including previous experience with the Pearland Police Department, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
City officials have not provided details about the investigation. They stated that Chief Lopez’s administrative leave is a standard procedural measure and does not affect public safety or police operations.
