A Bedford bank robbery ended almost as quickly as it began last Friday, after police say a 25-year-old man held up a Bank of America branch and tried to make his getaway on a bicycle.
Bedford police said the robbery happened at about 1:30 p.m., when a man handed a teller a note demanding money and claiming he had a weapon. The teller complied, and the suspect rode off from the 1900 block of Central Drive on a bike, according to a police news release reported by CBS News Texas.
Authorities said the suspect is a 25-year-old man from Waco who had recently been staying in Euless. He was arrested a short time after the robbery with assistance from the FBI. Police will publicly identify the man after his arraignment, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
How Officers Closed In Within Hours
Bedford officers worked with FBI agents to identify the suspect and locate him in Euless within a few hours of the incident, police said. He was taken into custody a short time after the midafternoon robbery and is expected to be transferred to the Tarrant County Jail for arraignment, according to CBS News Texas.
What Officials Are Revealing So Far
Bedford police have not released the suspect's name or the amount of money taken and say they will identify him publicly after his arraignment, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Police also released a photo related to the investigation.
The investigation remains active, and officials have not released additional details about possible charges or a potential motive. We will update this story as Bedford police or the Tarrant County District Attorney's office provides more information.
