A tragic incident unfolded in Livingston Parish as a bicyclist was struck and killed on LA 1025 near Somerset Lane. According to a news release from the Louisiana State Police, the accident occurred on the evening of November 17, 2025, and it claimed the life of 53-year-old Jason Causey of Denham Springs.
The preliminary investigation by the Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A indicates that Causey was riding westbound on his bicycle along LA 1025 and negotiating a right-hand curve. Simultaneously, the driver of a 2002 Dodge Ram, which was also traveling west, approached the bicyclist. For causes yet to be ascertained by investigational efforts, the truck collided with the right side of Causey, who subsequently incurred grievous injuries, as mentioned on the same news.
Causey was rushed to a local hospital, but despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead. The driver of the pickup truck was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and did not sustain injuries. Although intoxication is not believed to be a factor, routine toxicology tests are being conducted to definitively rule out impairment as a cause.
The fatality has prompted State Police to issue a reminder for those who traverse the roads, irrespective of their chosen mode of transportation. "Bicyclists should wear visible clothing, use lights when riding at night, and adhere to all traffic laws," the police emphasized. In the same statement, motorists are called upon to remain mindful and cautious, especially during conditions of poor visibility, for the presence of pedestrians and those on bicycles, according to the Louisiana State Police.
This incident serves as a grave reminder of the vulnerability of cyclists on open roads and the shared responsibility we all bear to ensure safe passage for every road user. Further details on the actions leading to the collision and the ongoing investigation will be released as they become available.
