The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has extended an open invitation to members of the Blaine community, including everyday commuters and business proprietors, to a series of informational gatherings regarding the upcoming Highway 65 renovation project. The endeavor, which is set for initiation in the spring, aims to enhance the stretch of road between 97th Avenue and 125th Avenue/Main Street over the next four years. For those interested, details about the public meetings are available on Blaine's official website. The sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 18, and Wednesday, Nov. 19, from 3 – 7PM including presentations at 3:30PM and 5:30PM at Blaine City Hall.
During these meetings, MnDOT staff will present the projected community and traffic impacts, overall design, and the construction timeline. Attendees will have the opportunity to view a four-dimensional computer model showcasing the future highway’s look and layout. This ambitious project is poised to transform current at-grade intersections into interchanges, permitting Highway 65 to traverse above 99th Ave., 105th Ave., 109th Ave., and 117th Ave./Cloud Dr.
In addition to the infrastructural enhancements, a new pedestrian bridge will be constructed to span the freeway between 113th and 114th Avenues. Local streets and driveways will witness a reconfiguration through the utilization of frontage and backage roads extending from 97th Ave. to 125th Ave. Also, the existing walkways along the roadway will be reworked to align with the standards stipulated by the Americans with Disability Act (ADA).
The improvements are projected to culminate in the fall of 2029. Upon completion, residents can expect a more reliable road surface, increased accessibility, reduced congestions, and an overall safer and fluid traffic flow. MnDOT has also expressed their commitment to inclusivity and encourages requests for ASL interpreters, foreign language translation, and accommodations for other reasonable needs.
