A Blount County man has been sentenced to a quarter-century behind bars for the sexual assault of a child, marking a somber conclusion to a case that has gripped the local community. According to a social media post from the Blount County District Attorney's Office, 45-year-old Billy Joe Genaway faced justice on November 14, 2025, following an investigation that began in July of the previous year.
Blount County District Attorney Ryan Desmond shared the outcome, confirming Genaway's conviction and the severe penalty applied for his crimes which, due to the sensitive nature of such cases, underscores both the weight of his actions and our collective responsibility to protect the most vulnerable among us, the sentence, handed down without the possibility of early release, ensures that Genaway will spend the next 25 years in the custody of the Tennessee Department of Corrections. Alongside the lengthy imprisonment, the court has mandated that Genaway register as a sex offender and submit to lifelong supervision following his eventual release.
This case was propelled to its conclusion by the zealous efforts of Investigator Magahn Mattocks from the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, whose dedication to the pursuit of justice for the victim has been commended by those within the legal community and beyond, Assistant District Attorney Tyler Parks, who was tasked with the prosecution, he led the team that would ultimately see Genaway held accountable for his reprehensible actions, highlighting the critical role of prosecutorial diligence in the maintenance of societal order.
