As holiday cheer permeates the air, Boulder City officials are unwrapping a campaign to bolster local businesses with a seasonal boost. The Boulder City Passport program, launched in support of Small Business Saturday, aims to encourage residents and tourists alike to shop within the Historic Downtown District and earn a shot at winning $50 gift cards – it's a win-win for the local economy and community spirit.
Raffi Festekjian, the Economic Development Coordinator for the city, highlighted the importance of the initiative, citing that "More than half of Nevada employees work for or own a small business," in an announcement shared by Boulder City's official website. Festekjian's message underscored the impact of small business patronage, stressing that consumer support is crucial for keeping funds circulating locally as participants in the program will only need to visit twenty different shops within the designated area to be eligible for the drawing.
The passport, which shoppers can obtain either at City Hall or various participating businesses like Boulder Bowl and Coffee Cup, is not only a ticket to potential prizes but also a guide to various holiday events slated to enliven Boulder City in the coming weeks. City Manager Ned Thomas elaborated that "the program is designed to increase foot traffic, promote local shopping, and create a fun and engaging experience for all," as noted by Boulder City's official website. The City Manager's enthusiasm cascaded through a lineup of holiday festivities listed on the document.
Small Business Saturday is a tradition instigated by American Express in 2010, aimed at backing independent establishments nationwide. It has burgeoned into an annual tradition valued not just for its communal camaraderie but also for its significant contribution to the economy – with shoppers having dished out an estimated $223 billion since its inception. Boulder City joins this national cause, sustaining its local entrepreneurs, with Mayor Joe Hardy issuing a proclamation to honor the occasion, as mentioned in Boulder City's newsletter.
