Brighton has stepped up its public transport game with the announcement of a new service called BOLT, Brighton On-Demand Local Transit. The initiative, which is fueled by app-based technology, got off the ground today at an event organized at Brighton City Hall. Aimed at enhancing local travel, BOLT offers a convenient, cost-effective alternative to private car use and traditional static-route transit services.

Crucially, residents and guests will be able to navigate the city from Monday to Friday, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., without pulling a dollar from their wallet until the end of this year. As 2026 rolls in, however, fares for the service will hit your pocketbook at $2 a pop, or a buck for students, seniors, and veterans, as outlined by the City of Brighton. The transit service is hailed for its quick and efficient grouping of passengers headed in similar directions, thanks to Via's smart routing software, and booking a ride is as easy as a few smartphone taps away.

With inclusivity at its core, BOLT does not shy away from addressing the spectrum of accessibility needs. Every vehicle is equipped with a wheelchair ramp, door-to-door service is available for those with mobility challenges, and cyclists will find a friendly companion in the bike racks available on every vehicle. "Our goal has always been to make Brighton a city that’s accessible, sustainable and connected for everyone," Mayor Gregory Mills pronounced, as per the City of Brighton. "BOLT does exactly that."

City officials in Brighton teamed up with RTD and Via to get the program off the ground. Representing Via, Min Ji, Colorado Partnerships Lead, commented on the collaborative venture: "We’re proud to partner with the City of Brighton and RTD to bring the Brighton BOLT to life," she said, as obtained by the City of Brighton.  According to the City of Brighton, Ji further highlighted the role of BOLT in transforming how people travel, with a nod to Via's technology paving the path for an improved connectedness among Brighton's citizens and sightseers.
