The festive season in Brooklyn is officially kicking off with a series of tree lightings and holiday celebrations across the borough, as Park Slope recently hosted its 16th annual holiday tree-lighting ceremony and celebration on Small Business Saturday. Families gathered for a free event that included photo opportunities with Santa, live music, and free candy canes, all in support of shopping locally within the Park Slope community, reports PIX11.
Adding to the holiday excitement, the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID also celebrated Small Business Saturday with its tree lighting at 5:15 p.m., according to Brooklyn Paper, the ceremony featured Mexican hot chocolate from Chela and entertainment by Victor V. Gurbo and Bubble Dad. Meanwhile, the holiday cheer spreads far across Brooklyn, with NIA Community Services hosting celebrations in Bay Ridge, Dyker Park and Coney Island, where the events boast Santa appearances, local entertainment, and light refreshments in a bid to enhance the communal spirit this season.
Brooklyn will feature a new light installation at Albee Square, which includes changing colors and rhythmic lighting, along with events such as DJ performances, ugly sweater contests, and caroling.
The borough will also host several menorah lighting ceremonies organized by Chabad of Park Slope and Mill Basin. These events will include live music, hot latkes, and gifts for children.
In addition to these activities, Brooklyn offers well-known holiday attractions such as the Dyker Lights in Dyker Heights and the Lightscape installation at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, giving residents and visitors several seasonal displays to visit.
