In the coming days, Chatham Community Library is offering residents a unique glimpse into the life of a volunteer in war-torn Ukraine through the eyes of Philip Semanchuk. The talk, entitled “Ukraine: A Volunteer’s Story,” is scheduled for Saturday, November 15 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Holmes Family Meeting Room at the library, located at 197 NC Hwy 87 N, Pittsboro, NC.
Semanchuk's narrative, according to Chatham County's official website, is one not just of a singular journey, but of a commitment revisited, a tale of multiple returns to a nation under siege. The presentation promises to answer questions as to why someone would volunteer in a conflict zone, like Ukraine, detailing his experiences and the logistical challenges faced, from the journey there to the activities undertaken upon arrival.
Complementing his dialogue, Semanchuk will share a series of personal photographs, offering a visual accompaniment to his spoken account. The program is designed not only to inform but also to engage the audience, concluding with a Q&A session dedicated to addressing the public's curiosities and concerns about his experiences.
Attendees of the event can look forward to an illuminating afternoon free of charge, as the session is open to the public. This enlightening opportunity has been made possible, with the support of the Friends of the Chatham Community Library.
