In a recent crackdown on violent crime in Cincinnati, a 13-year-old has been arrested after leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening of November 3, as part of a coordinated effort by multiple agencies to tamp down on violence in the area. According to the official report by the Ohio Governor Mike DeWine's Office, the chase began after a Cincinnati Police Department (CPD) traffic stop went south.
The CPD officers initiated the stop after they spotted a 2017 Mazda 6 driving without its headlights on. When they tried to pull over the car, the young driver hit the gas and attempted to escape. The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Aviation Unit was brought into the mix to follow from above, allowing officers on the ground to back off, for the safety of all parties involved, including the fleeing youth. Eventually, after the teen crashed into another vehicle, he stopped in the 800 block of Plum Street, where he was arrested.
The teenager defied orders to get out of the car and, ignored multiple verbal commands from the officers. After some struggle, he was detained and taken into custody. It was then discovered that the vehicle he had been driving was stolen. This arrest sheds light on the complexities of the ongoing struggle to keep the streets safe while also dealing with issues such as youth crime and vehicle theft.
Following his arrest, the young individual now faces several charges, including "failure to comply," "receiving stolen property," "resisting arrest," and "obstructing official business," according to the statement from the Ohio Governor's Office. The teenager was taken to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center to await further proceedings.
