In a move to foster business compliance, Cobb County is launching an amnesty program for local enterprises. Starting December 1, businesses operating within unincorporated Cobb County will have the chance to apply for a 2026 Occupation Tax Certificate (OTC)—a requirement for commerce in the area—without having to pay any back taxes, penalties, or interest. The county's announcement comes as a gesture of support from the Board of Commissioners, seeking to help businesses get right with county regulations.
During the amnesty period, which runs until January 30, entities that are looking to become up to date can freely obtain their OTC. It's an opportunity not only to avoid additional costs but also to fully come into compliance with county standards. This deal, however, isn’t indefinite. After January 30, businesses may find themselves on the wrong side of the ledger if choosing to continue operating without a proper OTC.
An Occupation Tax Certificate is required for anyone conducting business within unincorporated Cobb County. This includes independent businesses as well as county vendors that provide goods or services under county contracts. For those who might need assistance or have questions about the OTC requirement or the amnesty application process, Cobb County has provided a point of contact: [email protected]. With a clear message of inclusivity, local authorities are encouraging every business affected by this mandate to quickly take advantage of the offer and aid in sustaining the compliance fabric of the community.
