In a recent turn of events that highlights the increasing threat of online scams, the Collin County Sheriff's Office has reached out to the public through social media for assistance in identifying a suspect involved in a fraudulent tractor sale. A post shared by the Collin County Sheriff's Office on Facebook describes a scenario where an out-of-state individual was misled by a counterfeit website offering industrial and farm equipment, which culminated in the person making the journey to Collin County only to find that the tractor he thought he was purchasing was, in fact, nonexistent.
The victim, lured by the fake online presence, transferred the payment before traveling to Texas, where, upon arrival, he discovered the harsh reality of the con; the suspect had already withdrawn the funds from a bank in the vicinity of the Collin/Dallas County line, leaving no tractor in sight. The Sheriff's Office is now actively pursuing the scammer, whose images have been circulated on the internet in hopes that someone will recognize this individual and aid law enforcement in their investigation. The Collin County Sheriff's Office’s Facebook post expressed an urgent need to apprehend the scam artist before more victims fall prey to similar deceptive tactics.
Authorities from Collin County are requesting anyone with information to step forward, offering multiple channels for contact, including a phone number, 972-547-5100, and a direct messaging option via their social media account.
