Residents seeking to deepen their understanding of tenant rights and responsibilities are in for a useful session. The city of Colorado Springs is teaming up with Colorado Legal Services to offer a no-cost workshop titled ‘Renter Rights 101’. Scheduled for November 21, the event aims to arm tenants with the knowledge they need to navigate the complexities of housing laws.
According to the City of Colorado Springs, the workshop will run from noon to 2 p.m. at Silver Key Senior Services on S. Murray Blvd. Clinton Albert, an attorney with Colorado Legal Services, will lead discussions on a bevy of topics from understanding the basics of a lease to knowing the procedure for repairs and evictions, plus insights into the recent updates to state housing legislation.
Importantly, while the presenters are barred from offering direct legal advice on individual cases, the class aims to provide information that can help prevent costly disputes. Items on the agenda include lease essentials, the process for reasonable accommodations and modifications, and rights surrounding deposits and repairs. Furthermore, attendees will be guided to resources to support them with housing and legal matters.
The class is accessible to all interested parties, either in person or via an online stream, with optional registration ensuring participants a copy of the presentation and recording of the event. This is just one installment of the broader Renter Rights 101 Workshop Series, a collaborative effort involving local organizations dedicated to housing justice and support, such as The Pikes Peak Library District and The Justice Center.
