The Concord Police Department has provided updates on the shooting that disrupted the City of Concord Tree Lighting Ceremony yesterday. According to a statement, the violent incident, which left the community in shock, was the result of an altercation between two individuals who knew each other, rather than an indiscriminate attack on attendees.
In a night where families were meant to gather in holiday spirit, the abrupt onset of gunfire instead brought forth a scene of chaos and urgency. Concord Police Chief Jimmy Hughes, perturbed by the events, said, "A night of celebration for our community was interrupted by senseless violence, affecting everyone who was there." Following the incident, there have been three individuals charged in connection with the shooting. Prompt evacuation procedures and vigilant responses by the local businesses, public, and first responders were crucial in preventing further harm and facilitating the swift apprehension of the suspects involved.
Among those identified is 18-year-old Nasir Ahmad Bostic, who apart from being charged, is also among the four injured during the incident. Bostic, currently in critical condition, will face charges including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill upon his release from the hospital. The juvenile suspect, whose identity remains protected under North Carolina juvenile privacy laws, has petitions filed against them for similar charges, along with two counts of discharging into occupied property causing serious injury.
The third suspect, 17-year-old Keyvyonn Rayshaund Bostic, has already been charged as an adult with accessory after the fact and inciting a riot, according to authorities. Not injured during the shooting, Keyvyonn was taken into custody shortly after the incident. Additionally, two other 17-year-old victims of the shooting were rushed to the hospital; while one has been released, the other remains in a condition described as critical.
