The Covington Police Department will increase traffic enforcement on November 26 from 8 a.m. to midnight as part of the Tennessee Highway Safety Office’s “Bring the Turkey…Not the Tragedy” campaign. Officers will focus on speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving to help prevent holiday road incidents, as reported by the Covington Police Department.

The department says THSO grants are supporting the expanded patrols, which have helped lower statewide traffic fatalities in October 2025 compared to last year. Tipton County, however, saw fatalities rise from three in 2024 to six in 2025, as stated by the Covington Police Department.

Chief Donna Turner of the Covington Police Department announced a Thanksgiving traffic-safety effort, saying, “We are excited to join forces with the Tennessee Highway Patrol and our local Tipton County Agencies who will have additional officers on patrol for this initiative,” according to the Covington Police Department on their Facebook page. The department also stated, “Our goal is to reduce speed, crashes, injuries, and support a safe holiday for our community. We want to keep the ‘Thankful’ in Thanksgiving!” Officials noted that the holiday period typically sees more motor-vehicle accidents and urged drivers to follow traffic laws.
