A Crossville man is facing charges for the death of his mother, following an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office. Special agents with the TBI were called to assist in the investigation upon request from the 13th Judicial District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway. Law enforcement first responded to a welfare check at the victim's residence on Monday. Upon arriving at the location on Big Horn Drive, officers found Linda Spivey, born July 8, 1949, deceased. The investigation quickly sought to navigate through the harrowing details, leading authorities to suspect foul play.
The ensuing inquiry led to the arrest of Kenneth Spivey, the son of the deceased, born on July 31, 1966. He has since been charged with First Degree Murder. A press release from the TBI, details the coordination between the two law enforcement bodies and the resulting legal action.
Kenneth Spivey is currently held in the Cumberland County Jail on a $1 million bond. The TBI reminds the public that these charges are mere accusations and not definitive proof of Kenneth Spivey's guilt. "The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law," the TBI statement affirmed.
