Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson has recently hosted more than 40 international diplomats during the 2025 Dallas Mayor’s Consular Corps Summit. The event, held on Monday and Tuesday, was a convergence of foreign dignitaries, local leaders, and business moguls. Mayor Johnson aimed to boost Dallas' standing on the global stage and to potentially draw in more international influence ahead of hosting the World Cup the following year. According to a bulletin published by the City of Dallas, the summit featured discussions on a range of topics, including medical research and technological advances, with local business representatives discussing the benefits of relocating to Dallas.

During the event, Mayor Johnson expressed the city’s international ambitions by stating, per the City of Dallas, “Dallas defines what it means to be an international city.” In his drive to forge and to strengthen international partnerships, Mayor Johnson, since the beginning of his term, has worked with the Mayor’s International Advisory Council (MIAC), which consults on diplomatic relations and international commerce. MIAC, under the leadership of Ambassador Jeanne Phillips, played a crucial role in the summit's success.

"We were pleased to welcome over 40 diplomats to Dallas for this summit,” Ambassador Phillips told the City of Dallas. This statement underscored the council's commitment to attracting trade offices to the city and focused on Dallas' appeal to global investors. Meanwhile, Consul General of Canada Susan Harper, Acting Dean of the Consular Corps of Dallas, highlighted the importance of Dallas in international partnerships. "Together, we can advance the prosperity and security of our nations and our peoples—and we look forward to doing so alongside the welcoming and dynamic people of Dallas and Texas," Harper said, emphasizing the spirit of cooperation.

The two-day summit showcased Dallas’s burgeoning sectors such as finance, real estate, and energy through panel discussions and networking opportunities. In a panel moderated by Nicole Small, industry professionals, including Universal DX COO Christian Hense and UT Southwestern Chief Innovation Officer Daniel Hommes, weighed in on Dallas's emerging role as a hub for cutting-edge medical research. The summit's second day highlighted financial services and other booming industries. Acknowledging the city's advancements and potential, Consul General of Germany Kai Hennig, Dean of the Consular Corps of Houston, expressed gratitude, as per the City of Dallas, "We appreciated the extensive discussions, informative presentations, and networking opportunities," Hennig said, reflecting on the summit's successful showing of Dallas's capabilities.

Participation in the summit was not solely local, as over 20 diplomats made the trip from the Consular Corps of Houston to attend the event. As Dallas fosters active consulates from countries such as Canada and Mexico, along with multiple international chambers of commerce, Mayor Johnson and Ambassador Phillips encouraged more countries to establish consular offices in Dallas to further embed and to leverage the city's increasing global influence. The Consular Corps Summit appears to be a key step forward in Mayor Johnson's strategy to secure Dallas’s place as a cornerstone of international business and diplomacy.
