In a direct response to the ongoing government shutdown, which has seen hundreds of federal workers continuing to clock in without pay, Dallas Love Field has begun a week-long donation drive. Announced to support the over 300 federal workers at the airport currently sans a paycheck, the drive is collecting items ranging from non-perishable foods to personal hygiene products from November 3 to 7.
Despite the backdrop of political stalemate, operations at Dallas Love Field have yet to hit a snag, all thanks to federal workers determined to keep the skies safe and the terminals humming. Now, the airport is reaching out to the community to help provide some relief to its unpaid employees. "Operations at Dallas Love Field have remained relatively normal throughout the shutdown because our federal workers have not wavered in their commitment to ensuring air travel remains safe and our airport operates efficiently," City of Dallas Aviation Director Patrick Carreno said in a statement obtained by the bulletin provided by the City of Dallas. "It is our turn to show them support and provide some much-needed relief to them and their families."
Members of the public can get involved by dropping off goods at several collection points throughout the airport and its vicinity. These include the main info booth at the airport, the cellphone waiting lot, and the Maurice Rayshun Smith Administration Building. Dallas Love Field has made logistical considerations to facilitate these acts of kindness, offering free parking for short periods in Garages A, B, and C to make donating even easier.
