A Dartmouth man faces multiple drug-related charges after a weeks-long narcotics investigation culminated in his arrest, according to a social media post from the Dartmouth Police Department. The joint effort by detectives from the Dartmouth Police Department's Community Impact Unit (CIU) and Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to the State Police Detective Unit (SPDU) targeted 34-year-old Jeremiah Cowart, of Dartmouth, MA.
The police obtained a search warrant for Cowart's home at 62 Huntington Avenue following extensive investigative efforts. In the attempt to execute the warrant on November 14, Cowart attempted to flee his house and was apprehended by officers after running into a nearby wooded area. The Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) SWAT Team successfully made entry to secure the residence, with additional support from the Dartmouth Police Department's K-9 and Drone Units.
During the search of Cowart's property, detectives recovered approximately 21 grams of suspected Fentanyl, around 6 grams of suspected Oxycodone tablets, $4,013 in US currency, and drug distribution paraphernalia, which included scales, packaging materials, and a hydraulic press commonly used to compact powdered narcotics. Details of the items seized were shared in a post by the Dartmouth Police Department.
Charges against Cowart include trafficking Fentanyl in more than 10 grams, and possession with intent to distribute Class A and Class B drugs, marking subsequent offenses in his record. "The Dartmouth Police Department and Massachusetts State Police remain committed to proactive enforcement aimed at reducing the impact of narcotics distribution in our communities," the Dartmouth Police Department stated, and Dartmouth Chief of Police Brian P. Levesque has commended the collaborative efforts of both agencies involved in the investigation. Cowart was taken to Dartmouth Police Headquarters for booking and will subsequently be arraigned in New Bedford District Court.
