Desha Levann Madkins has been convicted of several charges related to mail theft, according to a recent announcement from the Washington County District Attorney's Office. The jury reached a verdict on November 6, 2025, finding Madkins guilty on eight counts that included theft of mail, receipt of stolen mail and possession of burglary tools. The trial was presided over by Judge Brandon Thompson, who handed down a sentence of 45 months in prison.
The case leading to Madkins' conviction stemmed from an incident dating back to October 2, 2019. Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Office pulled Madkins over after noticing an illegal turn and his failure to use headlights while driving. It was soon discovered that Madkins had an outstanding warrant, leading to a search which revealed drugs, stolen mail, as well as credit and debit cards from multiple individuals. The deputies also found burglary tools—a lockpick and a pry bar—in his backpack. In a moment of candor, Madkins admitted the theft was a means to support his drug addiction.
Madkins' sentencing is the culmination of efforts by the Washington County Sheriff's Office and the prosecuting Deputy District Attorney Trevor Farrell, whose work was highly commended by the county's DA's office. The official announcement from the DA's office praised the law enforcement's diligence in bringing a resolution to this case.
Following his conviction, Madkins will be transferred to the Oregon Department of Corrections, where he will begin serving his sentence.
