Diamond Head Market & Grill has brought in local chef Jason Peel to shake up its breakfast lineup at the long-running Monsarrat counter. The partnership is rolling out new dishes, from roasted pork hash and a "sneaky" fried rice to refreshed pancakes and omelets, all feeding one of Honolulu's busiest takeout windows first thing in the morning.

Peel Teams With Kelvin Ro

Owner Kelvin Ro, who has run the Monsarrat market for years and developed his own farm operations, is teaming up with Peel on a new farm-focused project above the market. As outlined by Kamehameha Schools, Ro has been cultivating acreage in Maunalua and plans to channel that produce into the market and a dedicated farm-to-table concept with Peel.

What’s On the New Breakfast Menu

The updated breakfast spread leans into island flavors and classic diner comfort. On the board: roasted pork hash ($13.25), a signature pancake short stack ($9.50) and full stack ($11.40), along with a pancake platter ($16.50). The kitchen is also rolling out an all-meat omelet and a garden-fresh omelet (both $15), the "DH fried rice" described as "sneaky fried rice" ($10), loco moco ($13.25) and shoyu-wasabi-ginger ahi ($17). These items and prices were reported in a local food piece by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.

Peel's Next Move After Nami Kaze

Peel, who opened Nami Kaze in 2022, announced earlier this fall that the Pier 38 restaurant would close amid rising costs and operational challenges. Honolulu Magazine reported on Peel's announcement and his plan to pivot toward smaller, more focused projects, context that helps explain his new collaboration with Ro at Diamond Head Market & Grill.

Hours, Orders and Holiday Plates

The market's own site lists the grill's breakfast window starting at about 7 a.m. on weekdays and running until roughly 10:30 a.m. Weekend breakfast hours are slightly longer, and the site remains the best place to confirm the latest schedule. Diamond Head Market & Grill's website also lists current hours and contact information. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports that the market is taking Thanksgiving plate pre-orders for $36.95, with roasted turkey, wild mushroom brioche stuffing, candied sweet potato, cranberry-orange compote and local vegetables on the menu.

What This Means for Monsarrat

The Ro and Peel pairing underlines how Monsarrat Avenue keeps its status as a neighborhood magnet for breakfast and baked goods, and it may mean even longer lines in the morning. Diamond Head Market & Grill has long been a local favorite for bakery items like its blueberry cream cheese scone, a reputation that Honolulu's top bakeries list acknowledged when it included the market among the city’s standouts.
