An East Tennessee couple has found themselves at the center of federal charges as a grand jury brought forth multiple indictments related to horrific crimes against minors. In an announcement that might feel all too common in our current climate, the U.S. Attorney's Office revealed the indictment of Randall Scott Sharpe, 56, and Tina Angelique Sharpe, 61, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The charges are a gut punch to the community of Granville, Tennessee, where the couple had custody and control over a minor; they stand accused of using this vulnerable youth to produce visual depictions of sexually explicit conduct, occurring in May and September 2024, in Bolivar, Tennessee, the indictment unveils specific instances including ones involving a prepubescent minor who was not older than 12, in an unsettling revelation that underlines just how young and defenseless the alleged victims were, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Randall Sharpe faces even further disdain as he is additionally charged with coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity, with an indictment citing his alleged electronic communications with the minor in November of the same year. Their cases, which shine a light on the darkest of human capabilities, are pending before United States District Court Judge S. Thomas Anderson, and the Sharpes now face decades behind bars, the mandatory minimum for such crimes being a stark 15 years, as noted by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
With no chance of parole in federal cases, the message is strong: society will continue to fight against those who exploit children. The FBI’s Nashville Division, its Jackson and Memphis offices, and the Bolivar Police Department are leading these efforts, while Assistant U.S. Attorneys Josh Morrow and Christie Hopper work to bring offenders to justice. Anyone with information is urged to contact the FBI Nashville Division at 615-232-7500 or the Bolivar Police Department at 731-658-4284, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office.
